Sons 2nd birthday
5 Answers
my son is 2 next month, and i just dont know what to get him, everything goes in his mouth and he just ruins toys by chewing them, he is abit behind for his age and i think toys aimed at 2yr olds are abit too advanced for him, he got a jigsaw type puzzle for xmas and aimed at 18months and he has just ruined it, by biting on the wooden pieces, but i dont want to get him baby toys because im hopping he will grow out of playing with rattles etc. has anyone got any ideas what to get my son, toys wise, as clothes and money are no fun for a 2 year old. thanks

I would get him anything colourful and chunky that he can chew on safely and have fun with. After all at two he doesn't really understand what a Birthday is and it's only you that will feel you should be getting him presents. Get him things he will enjoy and if they only last till Xmas well never mind you can always get more then. I know this sounds extravagent and I don't mean it too. I just think he's too young to know and why not get him baby toys - he'll grow up soon enough. Enjoy his Birthday - eat cake - play games - have fun but don't worry - theres plenty of years to stress over what, toys, games, playstations, computer games, cds etc etc to get.......

Have you got a posting box? The best ones only let you put the piece in the right hole. Some are simple (just a square, circle & triangle hole) others are more complicated.
Let him set his own pace.
When my daughter was walking she had a pull along duck that moved its head and wings. That wasn't what I'd gone to buy, but she'd spotted it when I showed her what I thought she'd like.
Mine loved rummaging in a cupboard full of saucepans (other low cupboards were locked). If he enjoys rattles let him experiment with sounds.
A bowl of water and some plastic mugs, squirty bottles, sieves, funnels (not all at once) can be a lot of fun and teach things that he won't realise he is learning.
Your time is the most valuable thing you can give him

Both of my children have had Wooden Toys. They last a lot longer and offer a lot more to children than a lot of the toys that are currently available.
I found the Brio toys very good and anything that is noisy, colourful and wooden will keep a child occupied, amused and help them learn basic skills.
I have sourced a great many of these toys from a toy shop that is local to me. Mulberry Bush focus on traditional and wooden toys and they have a great selection of toys and games for children of all ages.
Do have a look a Toy Shop with a difference - http://www.mulberrybush.co.uk/
