AOL dialup problems

I use AOL dialup and for nearly the whole of last week I was unable to get online. I rang the helpline twice and was told that everyone using their dialup service in the UK was having the same problem, and the only advice they could give was to keep trying. I finally managed to get back online again yesterday afternoon.

I couldn't get any sensible explanation of what the problem was - does anyone know?

I would assume that as hardly anyone uses dialup nowadays, they probably didn't rate it a high priority problem.
