my computer was recently infected with a virus called Trojan Horse Backdoor Generic12.AFDN. The next day there another one called Trojan Horse Generic 16. CGQP. Following that there were 3 'fake' trojans called admess.trojan, z serve and transponder trojan. AVG says they have all gone but there is clearly still a problem with my laptop, as whenever i try to go to a webpage, it sends me somewhere else, or it will open a 2nd random webpage. any advice?

download, install, update and run a full scan with the above.

you can install it and use it side by side with AVG, they will not clash at all.

i am scanning again right now and there is another one Trojan Horse Generic 16 CNKJ

thanks for the suggestion chuckfickens have you had a similar problem?
I would try a scan with malwarebytes, download, update, turn off system restore until after the scan, that`s if the virus hasn`t already disabled it.
If it won`t download, because of the malware, download onto a pen drive, using someone else`s computer, then try running the scan from the pen drive. Scan it in safe mode if possible.

thanks trish 432. yes it did disable the system restore so went through safe mode to do this. however, this didn;t get rid of the virus.

Download it on another computer, burn it to CD (using burning software that supports ISO files) then boot the infected computer from the CD, do an update on the virus definitions and then run a full scan.

if you've run a full scan with AVG and malwarebytes and neither of them have cured it I'd actually suggest a reinstall even if the above does cure it though.

ran malware again tonight and it picked up 2 trojan.injects, plus there has been 3 fraudulent activities on my credit card in the last 24 hours (the card I only use for internet purposes). my bank phoned me to check and the card has been cancelled without too much damage (under £200).
so am going to go for a reinstall. I have 2 CDs supplied with my notebook - one titled system recovery media and one titles system software media - is that is all that I need (apart from my office/word software?.any other advice
