Telephone amplifier

Sometimes when I answer the phone I hear a remote voice rambling on about a 'courtesy call' or something of the kind, but they sound very unclear and distant. I wonder whether my hearing isn't as good as it might be, or is the caller too far from the mouthpiece using one of those modern gadgets that leaves their hands free? I don't normally have a hearing problem when friends or neighbours call, but think it might be an idea to have some kind of amplifier fitted on the phone. Do others have this problem and can anyone recommend an amplifier please?

a courtesy call means there going to try to sell you something, i just hang up without answering ,i get sick of the company's trying to get me to change from BT etc. if you can hear your friends and family ok don't bother with an amplifier,
even though i am on the The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) i still get some courtesy calls getting through,

Yes me too deggers, telephone preference has stopped a lot of calls. You can tell some of the sales calls which still get through because of the space then click as they connect - hang up!

I had a cold call yesterday, very bad accent, said that apparently someone with my phone number had had a car accident in the last three years (which we hadn't). They were obviously one of these Claim companies. So I strung them along and then said 'OK wait a minute, I'll just get my husband'. Then I turned up Jeremy Kyle, went back to the phone five minutes, later and he had gone ! Can't wait for the next one now, I love it.
