Nokia Screen gone blank

Why has the screen on my Nokia phone gone blank ? I have taken out the SIM and battery and put in again, put on charge, although the charge light comes up in the middle of the screen, I don't have anything else on the sreen. When I dial the number from a land line, it says my mobile number is not available.

Have you started it up and logged on?

Its a mobile - how do I do that ? Tried the red switch, kept pressing in and out, doesn't seem to be switched off.

How dead was the battery?

The longer I leave my mobile uncharged the longer it takes to turn on when charging.

Try again in an hour...

It wasn't very dead, it seemed OK last night. Only had the phone around a year.

What happens if you hold red button down?

They are a bit like computers...they have wobbly moments..!!

Nothing happens if I hold red button down. I am going out for a couple of hours and will leave it on charge. I will report back later !

Ok now I have found the instruction booket and switched on. I was trying to switch on using the wrong button. About time I switched my brain on as well. Thanks folks ........
