Why do girls wear thongs? Surely they must be phenomenonally uncomfortable? Why not just wear nothing if you do not want VPL?

Because - they are actually very comfortable, they feel sexy and it saves the whole baggy bum in big pants thing going on. As for not wearing knickers at all to avoid VPL, some people like the 'front' of their knickers as they feel insecure without any (what if i got knocked over syndrome) or for the fact that they hold your tummy in, or they don't want something inappropriate flashing or showing through, or maybe they just don't want chilly bits! Others dare to bare!

in days gone ny when (allegedly) only strippers wore thongs, they were made of nylon and made for aesthetic rather than practical reasons, vpl was not an issue because women only wore sensible tweeds with a petticoat underneath. in these days of flimsy fabrics and lycra tightness, vpl is an issue almost everyday and it's just not very attractive, to meet the demands of real women, thongs are now made in soft cottons and sensible sizes and actually are very comfortable. in fact they can be every bit as comfortable and normal and tatty as the big pants used to be. 90% of my knickers are thongs but i still only have 10% that i consider to be sexy knickers. the thong has sold out, it's gone mainstream and got boring. as for wearing nothing... i dont want to explain, if you were a girl you'd know. :-)

Thongs are like a permenant wedgie and unless you have a butt like a peach, your behind resembles that of a sumo wrestler. Added to the fact that they ride up over your jeans makes them dubious undies indeed

normal knicks ride up your bum and you need to readjust, thongs are already there so you can't do anything about it. you find they become very comfy!

Me as well when it's hot! However, another girlie issue that I think treaclefight is getting at is that apart from *bodily changes*, there's nothing dodgier than a pair of leggings, tight trousers, jeans etc. doing that lovely *ahem* wedge (?) thing at the front. URGH!

There is a certain natural moistness associated with that part of the female body which without any nicks or 'feminine hygiene' products could be quite unpleasant not to mention embarrasing. Sorry Snaykz - I felt the need to spell it out a bit further.

Sorry to post a month too late, but I figure docklands77 might get this anyway.  Thongs are only uncomfortable if you buy them too small.  If a girl usually wears a UK10, she should buy a size 12 thong or G and all will be fine. 

Also, if you wear no knickers you have to wash your trousers more often and all girls know that the more washes, the shorter the life of the clothing. 

They are VERY comfortable IF bought in the right size.  :-)
