Pancake Mix

Does anyone but me remember, from the 70s or 80s a powder that you added water or milk to to make a flavoured batter (I seem to remember bacon) that you then fried like a pancake?  What was it called?  Or am I imagining it?

If it's the one I'm thinking about it was  called something like Frizzettes.

 It was very very tasty - and my Mum cooked it with just about everything!

My husband used to love frizzetts.  I too would like to know if it is still available.

Pancake mix:

 

• Flour
• Egg
• Milk

 

Er, that's it.

It can be flavoured, for example by putting bacon in it.

 

I believe you can also buy cake mix, bread mix, and (heaven preserve us) mashed potato mix, complete with easily-amused tin cans.  I expect they all come in little boxes with a further package inside, and somehow I doubt they are cheaper than the separate ingredients.  Food-processing firms must just love gullible consumers.

I remember Frizzettes (spelling???) from the late '50s into the '60s. You mixed the powder with water or milk, and poured it into a frying pan and cooked it until crisp. You had it as part of a fry-up (with eggs, bacon, sausages etc.). It has a savoury taste, and I believe it had carrot, onion and possibly celery flavourings in it. I also would love to know where it's available, if at all. Memo to New Forester: lighten up. this is about "comfort food" as Americans call it - I live in the US. So what if food processors see us coming? Life's too short to worry about such things.
