Our friends are visiting for the weekend shortly, they only like simple types of food, like to original Sunday roasts, but has anyone any ideas what I could do for a starter, I usually do melon but would like to do something different. any suggestions. Thanks.

Tomato, mozzerella and basil stacks with balsamic vinegar.
Stack them one by one...as tall as you like and pop in the oven to warm through until the cheese melts. Then drizzle with a little bit of balsamic. It's much tastier than it sounds...
Spinach pate is also very nice....
