Can you explain wordplay for SHED at 4 DOWN - I thought it might be SHET (an archaic form)

The answer is SHET. S = special, then WHET (appetizer) less W (with). Shet is an old word for closed.

Does local here mean 'regional dialect'? I usually go with Kayakamina, but will settle for SHET.

SHET is a regional description of CLOSED but cannot now remember where I got it from The rest of my working out was correct so the clue makes sense. I agree, Kayakamina is brilliant at answers and can usually be relied on to come up trumps.
