Do you know when the first Captain Birdseye was seen on TV? I need to know what year their ads began. Thanks.

Birds Eye Cod Fish Fingers first hit our shelves in 1955. In 1967, the concept of Captain Birds Eye was devised to help promote sales and from 1974 onwards the seafarer had an ongoing presence on our screens until 1997.

Unilever then decided to modernise the character and replaced the original bearded man, played by John Hewer, with his young handsome swashbuckling nephew, who conquered the depths in a James Bond-like submarine.
