I had surgery on Monday for an Arthroscopy (Camera in ankle) and tendon tightening as my ankle was loose. I am currently non weight bearing, I assume due to stitches. Later in the week I am going back for a new cast and stitch removal and have been told this will be weight bearing. Will I still be using crutches? Will I get a boot or something? Will I still be restricted to what I can do? Until now after each surgery I have only ever been non weight bearing and I am glad that this time around I should be able to get about easier.
Only an expert on myself, after 5 ankle operations, but I would assume you would still be using crutches that soon after being non weight bearing. Depending on how much weight you can put on it you may need a built up heel put into the plaster or just a walking shoe, which they will give you. Non weight bearing is such a bitch isn't it. After my last operation I was non weight bearing for 5 months and then had to have the built up heel for 2 months before being taken out of plaster.
Well I hope after all your efforts your ankle is well now? Thanks for your answer. I am hoping I get a removable boot, that way I can get on with things. This is my third op in just over a year and I cannot wait for this (fingers crossed) to be the end of it all.
Unfortunately not Greedyfly. The last 2 ops were bone transplants. I had bone taken from the pelvis to fuse the ankle which has worked but now I cannot manage steps or slopes and have a lot of pain. I am now registered as disabled, all because of a bad break when I caught my foot in the seat belt getting out of the car. The Consultant I have now says it is all the fault of the original surgeon who took the screws out of my ankle after 3 months when he should have left them there at least a year.
Sounds awful, mine too was the result of a bad break (4 places) after slipping on black ice. Tiny fall big damage unfortunately. I hate that we have to rely on people to fix us but then they make it worse. Yours sounds terrible, I hope that one day you will be pain free, I know how it gets you down.
