Can someone give me the gist of what Barack Obama is trying to do with healthcare reform and also explain why so many are against it. Or are the media just making it look as thought that is the case? Is their a rich/poor divide on who will benefit or lose out from this matter?

I can't give you all the ins and outs. Yes, some of those opposed to reform are those who stand to lose financially from it, as always. But some of the objections are principled ones: many Americans believe that it is their own right and duty to take care of their own health, not pay money to the state to do it for them. This is part of a generally more individualistic approach to life in the USA; not everyone feels that way, obviously, but it's much more common there than in Europe.
Well, I don't see why we need to really know about what Obama's plans for the U.S

I dont have the slighest interest in what he is planning.
"Health care is too expensive, so the Clinton administration is putting a high-powered coporate lawyer -- Hillary -- in charge of making it cheaper. (This is what I always do when I want to spend less money -- hire a lawyer from Yale.) If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it's free." -- P.J. O'Rourke
Jack's quote sums it up, Basically The US system is mainly private and funded from Medical insurance. The problem is that many are outside the system and there is a whole industry based around using any means to refuse claims. See the documentary "Sicko" by Michael Moore, (yes I know, lefty, on this subject he is correct). Obama wants to create some sort of state system, akin to the NHS, the trouble is the US knows that it will in then end need tax rises an is therefore resistant.

I started watching that one night but didn't watch it all. The thing about Moore is he doesn't really change anyone's mind just reaffirms the beliefs of the already converted.
