Yes but we DO make it easy for them, (and anyone who want to fiddle Tax Credits).

You can claim for as many children as you like AND YOU DONT HAVE TO PROVE ANY OF THEM EXIST.

There has been cases of people claiming for 20 children (who had only 1 or 2) until they got caught.

I have a relative claiming Tax Credit and she has to put down what her husband earns, She does so quite correctly BUT NOBODY HAS EVER ASKED FOR PROOF.

She could put £5,000 a year or £50,000 a year and nobody checks.

Tax Credit fraud runs into the BILLIONS and yet another example of Gordon Brown being very lax whn it comes to giving away government (our) money.

think we are all in agreement, a total farce....It does make you think though that maybe the staff working in these depts. are as corrupt as the people claiming so no chance of anything being uncovered...probably lots of help & tips..

But you try and get any benefit for genuine reasons though when you have worked all your life and paid into the system and need some support whilst undergoing cancer treatment, don't bother, you won't get it cos you don't fit in with the new "handbook" system anymore. Mr ES was told he wouldn't get anything as he was fit for work, despite the hospital telling him not to work and despite his employers telling him not to work becuase he was too ill. They can stuff their benefit and give to the scroungers. We hope to leave UK as soon as Mr ES is well enough.

As I said I worked with these people for five years when interviewing a romanian who was on benefits and I had evidence he was working illegally he repeated the chant I no understand I then said to him is that your £20 note on the floor behind you he looked behind him immediately they as I will say again thieves its in their nature

To give a similar (but smaller example), our town introduced residents parking a couple of years ago. You would think that be charging £25 for every permit and enforcing £60 fines for people not complying that it would be revenue neutral. In fact it loses tens of thousands of pounds per year.

A government department (and a computer system) will cost many millions to run and maintain.

The point with every law is that it is pretty easy to break. It is illegal to drive at over 70mph, but cars are made to exceed this speed. You don't have to prove that you will only drive at 70 when you buy a car. BUT, if you are caught breaking the law, you should and will be punished.

Fraud takes place in pretty much every country - it will never be stopped. Whether it is benefit fraud, banking fraud, insurance fraud or whatever - it happens all over.

After five years at the coalface so to speak I have yet to meet one who was honest and law abiding it makes my blood boil at the abuse that goes on costing us a fortune I have written to the Prime Minister Home Office local MP home office providing evidence of abuse and quite honestly they turn a blind eye to most of the abuse A romanian driving with no licence tax or insurance involved in a RTA was not even prosecuted what about the poor bloody driver he hit bet it cost him.

Ah resident parking. Where if you come to visit my neighbour you can park in my street for free (which since you paid your road tax should be the case), but if I come to visit your neighbour, Dick Turpin demands £25, or £60 if I refuse to pay the highwayman ? Meanwhile residents are asked to cough up for parking outside their own place, which they have already paid for in road tax, and which is used to move on visitors to the area into the neighbouring area, causing problems there instead which the autorities will "solve" by charging those residents too. Does one wonder why local authorities are held in such low esteem ? And if they claim they can't make money ripping folk off like that then they need to resign and let folk in who can run the place properly, for the benefit of the people.

Perhaps an entire country hasn't been written off, so much as those originating from there, who come here, looking for an easy life ? There is the rub, when working with certain sections of the public one gets a particular view reinforced daily, and one can't help feeling bitter about being a contributor to the public kitty yet seeing what goes out to those who appear undeserving, apparently viewing us as suckers.
