cat clawing sofa`s

How can i stop one of our cats clawing our fabric sofa`s and carpet, we have had new carpet laid and its ruined through her clawing at it, is there any way we can stop this other than shouting at her which does nothing lol. Thanks

presumably your cat has a scratching post in the house? Also try double sided sticky tape on the areas she uses -cats hate that - it may take a while and she may target other areas but she will get the idea in the end. A water pistol is a very effect yet harmless deterrent but you have to catch her just as she is about to claw.

Yes she has 2 posts, but as for the sticky tape, she claws all over the settee so cant do the tape thing, but i could always try the water pistol, but if that fails to work, then i just dont know. Thanks. xx

It's a hard habit to break once it's ingrained. We have kept a pouffé which "belongs to Rover", he knows he can scratch that without getting into trouble. A spray can sometimes help too, if you are able to spray your sofa with a deterrent spray.
I looked at this site for you but I wouldn't want to go to the effort of fitting softpaws!
