It is difficult deciding just where to live in London isn't it?
When I lived in Brixton (many years ago) it was an OK sort of place, but as you say now it isn't!
Clapham isn't bad (but getting trendy in parts),but of course one part of it adjoins Brixton!
Kilburn is OK,quite a mix of classes of people as it joins onto (posh) Maida Vale;it used to have a large Irish community, but of course that may have changed.
Battersea(next to Clapham) is nice, but rather pricey;it's also known as "South Chelsea" which says everything about it! LOL
Good Luck!
PS:~ Try this site, apologies if you have been there before!
I live in Kilburn, in the less dodgy end that joins onto West Hampstead. I really like it here. A big mix of people, a real sense of community, it's like a little village outside London that has its own identity.
EVERYONE lives in Clapham! If you went to Nottingham Uni and you want to move to London, then Clapham's the place to be! Kilburn/West Hampstead's much better though!
Sorry in my fury I spelt OFF incorrectly ..... Am OK now and have calmed down ;-)
In response to another thread which was started but has now vanished, I will list 10 good things about Brixton ....
1. The Brixton Academy
2. The Fridge
3. Mass & The Bug bar
4. The Tube and Transport links
5. The Ritzy Cinema
6. Electric Avenue Market
7. Brockwell Park
8. Harlem Soul Food
9. The Brixton Bar and Grill
10. The people!
Nuff said.
