a good hand and nail cream?

My nails are brittle, and the skin around them is cracked and dry.  I don't want to grow my nails as such, but I would like for my hands to look a little less horrible!  Can anyone recommend a good value hand cream or similar? I currently use the Vaseline hand and nail cream twice a day and its having no effect what so ever! 
Any advice would be great � I am on a budget though! Ta!!

Rub olive oil into your hands every time you're in the kitchen.  It may smell a bit but it's a great moisturiser.  Also, buy a pair of cotton gloves from Boots and wear them in bed at night over a very thick layer of handcream.  The cream will have soaked in by next morning and your hands should be less dry.

Even if you keep your nails short the skin around them will really firm up and look great.  My hands have never looked better!  I came across it by mistake so hopefully it will do the trick for you!

maxd - I have tried the glove thing before - it does work a treat for an intensive moisture treatment, but I find sleeping with gloves on very strange and tend to take them off in my sleep!

The best one I have found is .... Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream (may not be exact title but tube is beside my bed at home and I am at work!)

It is about �5/6 a tube or thereabouts but you only need a tiny dab so the tube lasts forever!  It made a huge difference to my hands and I am allergic to most soaps and cleaners so always had dry hands!
