Madrid in Sept
Will be spending a week in Madrid middle of September. Looking for an inexpensive hotel in center of Madrid for two people. Does not have to be fancy as it will only be used for sleeping. Anyone out there have any suggestions???

Don't be put of by the word 'hostel' in that URL. Just set your initial search criteria and then, on the results page, use the 'Refine Search' facility to choose 'Guesthouses' and/or 'Hotels'. (Then click 'Update'). You should find about 120 possibilities, complete with reviews.

We stayed in the High Tech Avenida Gran Via, which was reasonably priced and very well located, both for the metro to the airport and for walking around central Madrid. I would not recommend it for any other reasons, as it was a bit grotty in the public areas, the central heating could only be melt-down or switched off, and the rooms have a bizarre glass-walled bathroom, so the only option for not witnessing sig other's morning dump is to go for a walk. If you choose to stay there don't bother with the breakfast - there are excellent cafes to be found across the road, if you turn left and downhill out of the hotel entrance.
My friend and I had a long weekend in Madrid in November 2009 and stayed in this apartment block http://www.caballerod...id-Accommodation.html
Very central - walking distance to major sights - great place to relax after hard day sightseeing. 3 or 4 restaurants just doors away and a small supermarket if you prefer to eat at home.
