  1. Nice
  2. Monaco
  3. Biarritz
  4. Bordeaux

Avoid Toulon like the plague!!
Montpelier was surprisingly disappointing too. It is a theatre/student town but really lacks atmosphere. Bordeaux was beautiful and lively. But book ahead if you want wine tasting tours.

Depends on how long you're staying for and what kind of things you're interested in. Montpellier is a very student-oriented city but is also very beautiful. If you stray from the coast Avignon and Carcassonne are both steeped in history. And Nimes is also beautiful - go see Pont du Gard. I worked in Montpellier for 3 months and absolutely loved it.Hope you have a great time.

Thanks Verna 77

I'm there for the weekend,I may be head to the Spanish border via the coast and then come back inland.I will follow your suggestions

JUst back from a week spent just to the west of Montpellier, Pezenas is a lovely little town full of twisty, tiny streets. Sete on the coast south of Montpellier has the most enormous market on Wednesday mornings, fresh produce like you wouldn't believe. We drove down to the Carmargue which was a great experience, the white horses, black bulls and the flamingos! Marseillan (not Marseilles) is a pleasant little resort on the lagoon that runs south west from Sete. All in all a lovely part of the world and we wished we'd booked for longer.
