Things are really mad in my house - electrically speaking

Yesterday I found a spur socket which had been incorrectly wired (See http://www.theanswerb.../Question880695.html) and still worked!!

Today all the basin taps appear to incorrectly earth bonded as we are getting shocks off of them

Finally a ceiling light - switched off - but still intermittently half coming on. And that is after the appropite fuse is switched off at the fuse board.

Are there electricians who work 24/7 or will it be safe to leave until tomorrow???

If I were you, I would check around for any modified or added wiring (like that spur socket) and check those for correct wiring.
You have a L>E leakage somewhere. Probably not enough to throw your (old style?) RCD ?
Where abouts in the UK do you live? I know a few electricians who would come out to a job like that. Personally I'd just turn the lot off at the fuse board until tomorrow. I've done a few re-wires and I've seen worse, people using earth as live.
Posted Monday, arf great.
