I am near to getting there " BUT" Are they sefish?

Are the elderly selfish? do they put you in a conscious though by deviousness? do they say, Well IF YOU HAVE TOO? we have heard it time & time again, myself included. what are your thoughts?

Mrs Chappie & all, I may have put this Q In the wrong context, I did not by any means Ignore your Parents or anyone if it comes to that, but I will go back to what I posted in the first instance, maybe I should have clarified my Q a bit clearer

TWR, I understand what you meant as I also used to think that my mum was selfish ...... she knew that I had two jobs to do as well as various other commitments. She always got upset when I left her and didn't want me to go.

In the last year of her life I used to rush into the nursing home and stay for half an hour. In the beginning I used to visit a few times a week, but towards the end of her life my visits were just one measly half hour per week.

What I am saying is that I now regret giving her so little time. Sorry, that isn't a direct answer to your question. I was just hoping to show a different slant on the situation, if you know what I mean.

No not selfish, many elderly are needy in many aspects of their lives and I believe it is our DUTY to help our elderly friends family and neighbors as we some of the younger generation have become too selfish valuing our time and money and forgetting them and trying to throw them in homes so that their "Burdening" does not "Cramp our style" if we could maybe get back the sense of family and community that we had here during the war and similar to third world countries where the elderly are celebrated and looked after then maybe, just maybe we can claw back some of the great values that made this nation great as it once was.
