itunes and Vista on DELL Vostro 200

I had problems with my DELL Vostro 200 when I download itunes 9. Basically my pc wouldn't read any cds or dvds which I inserted. I was told that I required an older version of itunes for this to recify the problem, which it did. I now bought a 5th Gen ipod nano and it says I HAVE to install itunes 9 for it to work. I had no recourse but to install it. Guess what? The dvd drive is not working again. HELP!
