I have been doing work in the garden over the last two years and at last have a new position for my composter (green plastic). However I have mislaid the lid and wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what I could use instead or is it really necessary? Thank you.
I have never used a composter. I just pile the leaves, eggshells, fruit peelings etc. in a space behind the trees at the back of the garden, and sometimes use Garrotta to break it up. Eventually I get a lovely mulch which I can use all over the garden. So I don't think you need a lid. My compost looks like a pyramid and sometimes I find a hole at the back of it - local foxes have made it an igloo !
A bit of old carpet or a thick piece of plastic will do. It does help to cover it as it will aid the warming process although it will still be ok without.
