Sorry poodi, I don't know where your research has been done, possibly the East End of London, but I can't say i have come across alot of primary source evidence to support your statement. Which records have you looked at that has made you think that way?

People were as diverse then as they are now, the biggest change to women's lives today is contraception, most everything other right and equality followed it.

Not all women of the Victorian women lived out some kind of wretched existence, laborious life at the hands of there controlling husbands. Some were very educated and single-minded.
