I wonder who first coined that N/S divide phrase....I have never felt inferior to my Southern cousins or them me, who are these chinless wonders?

Every Northern I have ever met spends far too much time telling me how straight talking he/she is, how to-the-point they are, how they manage to call a digging implement a digging implement - without managing to say anything.
A bit like politicians really.
I don't deny there are nasty or un-trusting people all around the country, and it certainly isn't a "southern" thing. My experiences of the "North" are much the same as everywhere else.
As a deep-fenland friend once boasted to me: "Yes, I just tell them EVERYTHING is webbed" - I am yet to work out what he means exactly.

I was born in Lancashire, grew up south of Watford Gap in a village so small and backwards that we thought of a night out in St. Neots as an adventure (a little fenland joke for the Ed)..........!!
I moved back to Lancashire 8 years ago, quickly followed by my parents and we all regret having been away so long..........

To Clarify: I am from an un-webbed bit of the fens, so make as many jokes you like about them. Especially people from Chatteris.

The North South divide certainly is valid as an economic concept in that it is a line from Bristol to the Wash in Lincolnshire rather than a horizontal line!
The thing is Cheshire and Surrey seem like exactly the same.
On matters Newcastle you get the Uber rich and the third word poor within 5 mile of each other just as you do in London or anywhere else.
I think Southerners get irritated too with the assumption that everything in the south is rosy. Try Stonebridge tube station near Wembley if you want to see poverty on any evening after the office workers have left.

I love living in York, but house prices here are definitely not cheap, nor are they in nearby Harrogate which is home to quite a few millionaires.
I lived in London for a year on a project and really enjoyed it and met some lovely people. However as the company paid for me to live in Bloomsbury I might not have liked the places I could actually have afforded on my salary alone.
