Poet on Majorca
6 Answers
Was there a well known English poet who went to live in (on?) Majorca, and if so who was it and are they buried there. The earlier question about gravestones prompted this as I'm off to Majorca in June.

Robert Graves (he of 'I, Claudius' fame) lived in Deia (Deya?)-- a few miles north of Chopin's gaff -- and he brought a particular kind of fame to the town. Definitely worth a visit, but check your bank balance before thinking of staying there. It's *achingly* beautiful and must have been utterly idyllic before it was 'discovered' by us tourists.
Can't just blame Graves for that, the north-west coast of the island was never going to escape tourism, but there's a special attention paid to Deia because of him. It became something of a posh hippy's hangout in the 60s and 70s, too. You'll spot lots of aristos with lovebeads and dreads scurrying around, avoiding the coaches and back-packed hordes. And the odd celeb staying at La Residencia - fabbo hotel (good restaurants too) owned by Richard Branson.
