I had a sparrow hawk annoying my birds a few weeks ago, it sems to have moved on now and all my goldfinches, chaffinches, tits etc are happily feeding. Could you have a predator lurking about which is keeping them away? I'm sure they'll return!! Good luck.

I still have lots of birds visiting my garden every day, blackbirds, blue tits, starlings, collared doves, and wrens too, so I'm very lucky?.................

maybe raiding magpies ?
In our garden the collared doves are chasing off the magpies! I always thought the doves were placid, if clumsy birds, clearly not Sussex ones. I guess they're rearing and fiercely protective of any food source?
my garden has gone a bit quiet too, still got the regulars magpies, robins, dunnocks, blackbirds, thrushed asstd pigeons/doves blue/great/coal/longtailed tits and green/gold/chaffinches haven't seen the jays, woodpeckers or nuthatches for a week or so and I expect the siskins have moved out to the country

No evidence of predators maybe someone nearby has started feeding and attracted them away

Miss Meg,We do have pigeons come but it's never made a difference with the others, I hope that they will come back soon.Thank you all for your replies.
It could be that most have paired off to breed. Many birds stick pretty much to their chosen patch when breeding cause insects and food is now more plentyful than in winter. With the bird table feeding becoming a very popular pastime there are now many more birds around than what there normally would be. The excess to the available territories will now have been chased to the outskirts where not enough food is available to raise chicks.
