Volcano effect on Freeview

Can the Icelandic volcanic fall out cause certain channels on Freeview to be unavailable.
Today I have about 10 channels without a signal and usually this only happens in heavy rain fall

All sorts of things can affect TV reception. See my posts here for some examples:

Although the volcanic cloud is above the 'line of sight' path between the transmitter and your aerial, it could still cause problems if it allows signal to arrive via a 'bounce path' as well as in a straight line. Since the two signals will be out of phase with each other, they'll either cancel each other out (if they arrive totally out of phase) or create signal distortion.

There are no terrestrial signals going to arrive at your antenna by bounce. That was associated more with the type of transmissions from CB radios, etc, using amptitude modulation (AM)
The volcanic dust is way, way too high to affect this.
You are either in an area where transmitter power is being altered (possibly on a test basis) or amplifiers are being swapped around. This possibly means a "from scratch" retune of channel line up, or you are in a fringe area and your antenna is only just passing the threshhold your digital receiver requires for a channel display. About the only weather that could affect your signal is heavy snowfall.
The volcanic dust is way, way too high to affect this.
