Beach closure Playa Blanca Lanzarote

Hi< I have just booked a holiday in Lanzarote in Playa Blanca. Our hotel is right on the beach but after reading Trip Advisor, it would seem that this beach is closed for work and according to the locals wont be open for a year! It is called Flamingo beach. Also, the place we are staying has changed hands and now after having glowing reports on TA it sounds awful!
Do I have a right to cancel or will I lose my money. Holiday is June 17th 2010.

we cancelled a holiday earlier in the year. we lost most of our money. Also i wouldnt take too much notice of trip advisor. we went to lanzarote last year in playa blanca and it was the best holiday we ever had when we checked reviews it seemed really bad but was a great holiday.

check your terms aqnd conditions but i would very much doubt it. It does beg the question why you didnt check trip advisor first! (i am aware that is not helpful in the slightest, sorry :))

bednobs, I did check Trip Advisor and all reports were fabulous. We then booked, but since then the hotel has changed hands and the reports on Trip Advisor have all been really negative. We booked this accommodation as it was right on the beach but now find that the beach is closed and will be for a whole year!
First Choice did not mention this in their write up and according to Trip Advisot, they are still not acknowledging it. If we can't get to the beach easliy, we do not want to go there! Where do we stand? x

Tripadvisor has negatives and positives. Sometimes you have to take a chance. Phone your insurance company ... are your insured ? Good luck
