prescribed or not? I use a combination of the following: strong sweet mint tea, crystallised ginger, Buscopan which is hyoscine taken with a paracetamol or ibuprofen, not both. I used to use a hot water bottle too but at my age the flushes make that a bit redundant. I find that stress is the trigger for me. I also have actimel daily.
There are prescription meds available too but i don't have a great opinion of doctors in general and have never felt the need to get further advice.
I know several people who are either under the GP or a consultant for IBS and Cronhs - with varying degrees of success. Seems to be that a combination of medication and self-care works best - my family and friends are their own expert patients on how best to manage it.
May I suggest you Google :- Professor Peter Whorwell, Wythenshawe Hospital. This is a very interesting alternate treatment for IBS
