Tightening a Connection to a Vibration Sensor on a Burglar Alarm

We were having some decorating done a few weeks ago, and whilst trying to clean behind a wire which goes to the vibration sensor (I think its called a 'viper') above the french doors, I accidentally tugged it a little. It seemed alright, but during the night the alarm kept going off for no apparent reason, and the french door was the zone that was triggering it.

I thought it would be a simple job to just take off the lid of the sensor and tighten the wires, but friends have informed me that it has a tamper device which will cause problems if I were to do this. Is it possible to isolate that particular zone and then do the job?

I would call the professionals out, but the last time it had a problem they simply opened the main alarm box, flicked a switch and charged me £60. Ouch!

Any advice that would save my pennies would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

Have you got access to the Control Panel or does the Firm who manufacture the Alarm System hold the Key ? Now it has been 'disturbed' it needs re-setting.

Thanks for this information about re-setting. It is a standard domestic alarm, and it does have a control box, but I don't know about who holds the key.

Is you home owned by a Housing Association to whom you pay Service Charges to, if so they should hold the Alarm Keys for the system. How come you were charged £60.00 last time ?

No, we own the house - so I think we can perform control activities ourselves. I don't know why it was so expensive last time. When they installed it, we had been advised by the local Crime Prevention Officer that they were good - and certainly there have been virtually no problems with the system. But I just felt that they were having a laugh that time, and so I would probably try someone else if I need to. You don't mind paying a fair price.
