Can anyone recommend a bank with a user friendly online banking system.

I currently use Barclays and I think it is really easy to use for transferring money, paying bills, etc. But I've not been impressed with some of its other so called customer service so I'm thinking of voting with my feet (or my keyboard) and going elsewhere.

any thoughts?

I have been with Nationwide for years. Have had accounts with Co-op, Natwest and Barclays over the years and Nationwide are the best. They are a building society which seems to make them more friendly and 'seem' smaller/more local (but they're not?!). Don't know what the real differences are between banks/building soc but it works for me.

Oh, and they have a good online service too. (although to be honest most banking services do these days)

I'd steer clear of HSBC - I'm considering moving from them for the same reasons!

I'm with HSBC and have been thoroughly pleased particularly with internet banking. They (as Midland) got me out of a personal banking crisis some years ago when they didn't have to so I have remained loyal.

I use Natwest and am delighted with their service. I run my personal accounts, mortgage and business accounts through them.
I have had a current account with HSBC for years and have found no problems with their internet service. However the rate of interest on current accounts is very low compared to some other banks.
I use LloydsTSB online and First Direct. Both do what they need to do well enough but the white on black screen from First Direct is quite cool.
I use Cahoot and have done for 6 yrs and I have been more than happy with all their services.

I didn't have a problem with HSBC's internet banking it's the rest of the system and that yuo simply cannot talk to anybody with any authority.

I found a ghost 30 odd item on my bill from tesco when I'd not been there immediately preceding a valid debit for exactly the same amount.

Told it would be sorted out in 2 weeks - 2 weeks later a form arrives. Completed sent back. 2 weeks later - another form arrives - sorry wrong form oh and we have to cancel the card - I call them up - nobody knows anything about it - we'll see if we can put you through to the fraud department - they come back - please call customer services on this number (the number I dialed to talk to them in the first place)

So I'm now without a credit card and am not allowed to talk to the people dealing with my issue.

I have a little "local knowlege" for them - Stop hiding behind yuor call centres!

I've always banked with Natwest, and have found their online banking service is excellent, as is their customer service in branch. I once tried to open an account with HSBC upon a recommendation, although being in the bank for five minutes showed me I did not to bank with them !
jake-the-peg, why didn't you go to Tesco to sort it out?
;-)

I moved away from HSBC because, although their online banking was fine, they annoyed me no end with a string of errors, like never updating my home address for over 2 years, which caused a load of problems. You'd think they had changed it and then, all of a sudden, Pop, my parent's were getting my mail again. Plus their interest rate is insulting.

I moved to Smile, who have been excellent and I've never had a single problem, although they do need to introduce some method for downloading bank statements into accounting programs. I also considered Cahoot, but preferred Smile's ethical stance and my wife likes pink.

Nationwide I believe has been voted one of the most user friendly online banking sites.

I'm with Nationwide myself and find their system/service is excellent.

I'm just chipping in to agree with previous comments about Nationwide.  No problems whatsoever with them, either at branch level or their superb online banking arm.
I have a bank account with Nationwide, with savings, their credit card and also mortgage, their on-line banking is so easy and i can view all my accounts and transfer cash easily between them on line. Its all straightforward and it you have a question theres option to send message to c/serv etc and they get back to you in a day or 2..... have had accounts with natwest and abbey and they wernt customer friendly at all in comparison.  Apparently co-op is pretty good alrounder with ethinical qualitys , if i was choosing to change it would be to the co-op but at moment am very happy all round with Nationwide !! .......
