Flight Cancellation

Due to fly out on Friday from Manchester on a scheduled flight.

It is looking very doubtful and I would like to re-book for a later date.

At what point can I re-book and not incur any fees? Do I have to wait until they officially cancel the flight?

Does any one know?

I was due on a flight this morning so I've spent a long time on this one...According to BBC, you have to wait until they say the flight is cancelled - check online.
With Easyjet you then have the choice between 'refund' and 'free transfer' (a date within the next 30 days). I really hope for your sake that you're not flying with Easyjet as even when you change the date there is no way you can confirm it (yup, they forgot to include that little icon) so you can't re-book.

Considering the number of passengers affected until now, phone lines are probably jammed with customers on already-cancelled flights. I don't suppose airlines would appreciate customers calling if their flights are still scheduled. Like you say, it is doubtful, but it seems that progress is being made, what with these recent successful test flights and some airlines flying some flight e.g. KLM flew passengers to Thailand/Taiwan last night.

You could try your luck contacting the airline but changes are often only permitted if you have purchased a flexible ticket, which is typically a much more expensive fare. If you have a rock-bottom economy fare (which is what most travellers seem to go for), the chances are that changes can't be made. If they can, they won't be free - not until your flight is officially cancelled anyway.

I was flying with Ryanair tomorrow, but they cancelled it a couple of days ago and sent a link where I could rebook or apply for a refund online; I did the latter. You could try checking with the airline, though.

Thanks to all your replies re my query, At what point can I re-book and not incur any fees?
I was due to fly on Friday to Gibraltar.

My airline have re-booked me with no charge for a convenient date two weeks away (maybe still not far enough in the future). I contacted them through their email system.
