£1400 for a new boiler?

I've just been told by my plumber that my boiler is crap and needs replacing. At the moment i have a Alpha Ocean 240e which is about 14 years old and he's recommended a Ferroli 31 condensing boiler and quoted me £1400 to do the work. I live in the midlands.Is this a decent price?

Yes it's a good price. We paid £1300 a couple of years ago so £1400 seems ok now

My neighbour had one fitted by B.Gas .... £3600... The same boiler when I googled it .... was £680 supply only.
One hell of a fitting charge..!

don't get a Ferroli, they used to be really good simple reliable boilers but with there latest boiler they've decided to take all the repair and service instructions out of the manual, we went to service one and couldn't because we couldn't get it apart. I emailed Ferroli to complain and they said its because they want the engineers to go on their training courses instead, which is all well and good but each course for each model costs £50, you lose a days takings attending, and they aren't even offering any courses at the moment as they have no instructor. I have a sneaky suspicion that the real reason behind it is they want the customers to have to call out their own engineers and charge you a fortune.
the only boiler i would consider is a Vaillant or a Worcester and for a quality top of the range boiler like that you would be looking around the £2000 mark.

My daughter just had a new Worcester boiler fitted. To remove the old back boiler, gas fire, hot water cylinder from airing cupboard and put new boiler in airing cupboard take floorboards up for new pipework, plaster over hole where fire used to be etc etc etc. Three days work in total + new boiler £3,600. Considering this was quite a big job, I did not think this was too bad. She is in Lincolnshire

We've just had valliant boiler fitted 3 weeks ago - brilliant!!! It cost £2000 but well worth it!

Weve just had a new viessmann boiler fitted costing £1400 in total, no extra pipework needed as it went in the same place as the old boiler , £400 back off the scrappage scheme so it cost us £1000 , i think that was a really good price

Not a bad price but you need to be aware of the efficiency rating of the new boiler. There's no point changing unless you go for the most efficient that you can afford. We had a new one (oil fired) last year and used 1/2 a tank of oil this year against a full tank the year before and we kept it one for longer this year as well because it was colder.

My mum recently needed a new boiler. The first plumber offered to fit a Ferroli for £1900 (in Cheshire) and tried to tell her the scrappage £400 was no longer available. My brother-in-law did some asking around and he was told by everyone he asked not to even consider a Ferroli - difficult to get parts, likely to soon need them, etc. She got another quote for a Worcester-Bosch for £1500. Very happy with it so far and she's applied for the scrappage allowance.

I would definitely go for a Vaillant boiler everytime...they are the best....

Not being nosey about your finances, but could you qualify for Warm Front scheme? You'd get what you need (up to a generous top limit). The firm that does it in your area would choose the boiler you need and it's all guaranteed, serviced etc.

call out another plumber.....preferably a retired one; they can fix most boilers.

My old boy fixed mine when the 'novices' couldn't and for £25 - saving me £1,725
