The MJ were funded and supported by the west, and we also allegedy provided training as well. After the Soviet withdrawel the MJ ceased to exist as an organisation. AQ is not actually a single organisation like the IRA or ETA (in Spain) but a series of different terrorist groups affiliated by like-mided thinking, an extreme form of the same religion, and a hatred of the infidel. Depending on which group you listen to their aims are all different as well. Some groups want the removal of non-muslim people and influences from the holy lands, some want the establishment of an Islamic Calipahte (a single islamic nation extending from West Africa all the way to Pakistan), some want the total eradication of all non-muslims from the face of the earth.
