Picking heads of Dandelions

I have just picked all the heads of the dandelions in the garden, so they dont go to seed and spread. But does this make the plants stronger ?

we removed the yellow heads and have continued to do so.
Now a year later, we're not as plagued by them as we were. Also just slicing off the green rosette of leaves, without digging up the root leaving the grass looking like a golf course, seems to lead to weaker dandelions regrowing. It's a lot quicker too.
