Ratings can only be given by the question setter: if you are logged on and see my answer you will be given a chance to rate my answer so, naturally, you will rate it with 3 stars. However, rating answers messes up the order of the answers since it will now be defined by the rating rather than the date the answer was posted: so subsequent answers to mine should also be rated 3 stars to maintain consistency. I don't have a tally of all the ratings I have ever received so it is not a competition and you can always change your mind and re-rate an answer.
So, there seems to be two ways of looking at this ratings thing? Firstly, it is good manners to rate when someone has been good enought to respond. But, it would also be nice to read the answers in order. So, until this is sorted out by AB (will it be?), do we rate or do we not?!
