I have an .. Acer Aspire 5315 laptop... It is running on Vista...I also have a Panasonic HD tv.
My query is... which are the best cables to connect the laptop to the TV. I would probably want to use iPlayer etc ... and obviously need the sound to work.
The laptop has various outputs/connectors including ...
s-video ...
VGA-15 pin HD D-sub (HD-15)
High speed 4 pin USB type A
mini-phone 3.5mm
The TV has 3 spare HDMI inputs as well as a 15 pin sub input, USB and also a network connection.
..and finally close to the TV.. I have my router..the laptop runs well wireless, but would it be best to use a network cable direct to the router.
I've got a feeling I need to connect the 15 pin sub to the HDMI on the telly.
Just dont want to buy the wrong thing... Hope this makes sense , I know someone will have the answer...
Ta.. in advance
You just need a standard 15 pin VGA monitor lead for the video and a lead for the audio, one end would need to go into the 3.5mm headphone socket on the laptop, the other end would go to whatever the connector for the PC audio input is on the TV, normally another 3.5mm jack, but sometimes they can be RCA type phono plugs.
I agree. It's a shame you don't have an HDMI output though. One cable and no messing about. You still get great video with the monitor lead solution, but you get better sound with the HDMI.
So does that mean if I get a cable with a 15 pin sub at one end ...and a HDMI at the other, this will deal with sound and vision..?...a bit like this one.
