12 if the sequence is a guitar scale:
Dorian b2 Minor Mode=1,2,4,6,8,10,12

What quiz is it? This may give us a clue to the context
are you sure you have the sequence right? from that sequence it must be 12 because it's just adding two each time, which is far too simple, is the 8 meant to be there?

if it was 1, 2, 4, 6, 10, then the next number is also 12 as they are all primes - 1, but it is at least a slightly harder sequence to figure out.

(it's also close to the burnt pancake sequence which would be 1 ,4, 6, 8, 10, though the next number is still 12)
12

the sequence is a tie breaker in a name quiz and it is definately1.2.4.6.8.10 ? so as it is a tiebreaker I think everyone will put twelve so I think it is something different, thanks for your help
4, 6, 10 and 12 aren't primes. Would agree that next number would be 12 unless the numbers refer to something less obvious like those sequences that list the number of letters in each month or something
If it was simply adding 2 each time then the first number in the sequence would be 0, not 1.

I believe Chuck was referring to "primes minus 1", but as he says, 8 does not fit that sequence.

I was thinking something based on powers of 2, where sequence is 1, 2, 4, 8, 16...
Needs more thought.
Ah I see, I read it as primes, except for the 1!
