Have any members of AB received a letter from SKY demanding payment for insurance on Equipment that they have installed .
We had our SKY box exchanged for a SKY + Box ,the engineer removed our old equipment , all has been well ,last week approx 11 months later SKY write to inform us that the Insurance is due,to cover any cost if there should be a breakdown ,or informing us that charges will be made for any engineers time should they be called out ,this is the first time in the last 10 years that we have received such a demand ,I have always assumed that our subscriptions cover for all to do with SKY .It remains SKY's equipment !
Have any members thoughts on this matter.
Thank you all as always.

A friend of mine had a similar thing occur but it was a phone call. It was a scam.
Call Sky to find out if the letter is really from them.
surely the insurance it optional. we get offered the option of insurance to which I always refuse.
Sky will suggest you take out an ins as the equipment is under guarantee for only the 1st 12 months, but I never had a demand asking me to, just a suggestion that I should
we had to buy insurance after 10 years with no problems. they've got you by the proverbials. we opted to pay one years insurance because it would have worked out the same price for a one off call out fee.
I got a phone call last week. The caller said he was from sky. I p1ssed him off. I then got on to sky who said it was nothing to do with them. I will also add 3 years ago my sky box broke down. I rang sky who said as it was out of guarantee and it wasn't insured I would have to pay for an engineer to call. I said no thanks I will just cancel my subscription. The engineer was there next day with a brand new box. No charge.

Thank you Madmaggot /Cazz1975 and Bobbisox .
My point is the equipment belongs to SKY, so why should we have to pay for repair expenses,I totally understand accidental damage but not for breakdown's if you are hiring the equipment and services.

Nice one Caslass, Great result "come on you ammers"
Do you rent the sky box? How come there are so many used ones for sale?
hc. When you cancel your subscription sky don't want the box back. It is all cost (having to send an engineer out to remove it) When you move house they ask you to leave the box and they install a new one at your new address.
The equipment doesn't belong to sky. It's yours. Most people get a any free and some pay for it. No matter which it's your box and your responsibility. It has a year manufacturing guarantee and after that any problem is yours to resolve at your own cost unless you take out insurance with them. This is just like having a mobile phone contract in that respect.
We keep getting phone calls from sky about taking out insurance for the skybox. my OH has told them that if or when the box breaks down he will stop using sky and get something else. He pays about £42 per month which should include keeping the hire equipment in use for us,

York310 is absolutely correct.

It Must Be Part Of The Subscription ,How Else Would We Receive The Service !!
You buy the box, or it is a 'free' offer. The subscription is just for the service, in exactly the same way as if I buy a Humax PVR to record freeview.
Freeview is free but you need equipment to watch it.

It is your box, not Sky's. Read your terms and conditions.
