Hiya

Any hints before I call out the little man that does (via our landlady!)

Our radiators are not getting hot when the heating is on.  Cant even hear the water rushing though to fill them up or what ever it does when the heating first comes on.  It's gas heating if that makes any difference.

At the moment we dont have it on all the time, just every three or four days or so.

Is it something simple like bleeding all the radiators or could it mean that the thermostat or boiler or whatever has gone wrong?!

HELP!

Is the pilot light lit on your central heating boiler? If not then try lighting it with the spark switch located normally on the bottom front or underside of the boiler. There should be a viewing window which you should see a blue flame

First thing to do is to bleed all the radiators.

If you have the temperature adjusters (little number twisy thing normally on the bottom left hand side) on the radiators make sure that they are all turned up/on.

A common problem is the pump sticking. A gentle tap when the heating is switched on will often free it. You should be able to hear the pump running. In summer, we run our central heating for a few minutes every week to prevent this happening.
Could be lots of reasons - most mentioned above. I would suspect a room thermostat or individual thermostats set too low. Anyway you don't need heating at this time of year.

Is your CH producing hot water?

Bled all the radiators and there was no air in any of them.

Finally located the boiler and pilot light and .... it had gone out!  We spent 45 mins trying to get it to stay alight and it will not.  Any suggestions or should we call someone out?

It's just for our heating - the hot water is done separately.

is it sparking tee jay? if not then it could be the ignition for the spark, if it keeps going out it could be the gas jet that supplies gas to the pilot, I would suggest getting a corgi registered in as they are au fait with the equipment, it could even be a faulty thermo couple on the ignition, either way you are looking at 80-100 ish plus labour! hope that helps!
