good thinking! what are reasons for not being able to do jury duty, I've always wondered what would happen if you were called up (if thats the right terminology) to do it and it coincided with something like a wedding? Also, how much are employers bound to pay, and what if you were self employed?

I`ve been told that you can get out of it by claiming you are racist, don`t know if tat is true or not.
As for weddings etc you can ask for a delay and be picked at later date.

My employers said I just put jury service on my timesheet and they still pay me, they will probably claim the money back.

Self employed people have to claim from the court, I believe the most you can claim is £63 per day plus travel expenses

Wasn`t best pleased when I got the letter, I did it a few years ago and it was a nightmare, getting "eyeballed" constantly from the accused family and friends, some of the women on the jury were in tears becuase of it
