I wear glasses day to day and I have a pair of prescription sunglasses but I hardly ever wear them. Am I damaging my eyes by not wearing them in bright sunlight or doesn't it matter?

When they can go no smaller you start to squint, to reduce the amount of light entering your eyes. Sunglasses make you feel more comfortable, by making the squinting unnecessary, but they do nothing to protect your eyes. So you won't damage your eyes by not wearing them.

The main risk from the sun is the harmful ultra violet rays which is linked to types of cancer. One of the most common skin cancers is a basal cell carcinoma which is commonly found on the head and neck. This includes the eyelids which is a part of the body often missed when using sun screen. Ensure your prescription sunglasses have a uv coating and aren't just tinted spectacles.
