Hi All,
I have installed a pond in my back garden and a fountain to set it off, there is an outside socket about four meters from the pond and I plug in the fountain to turn it on as there just a plug on it, as the socket is far away from where I view the pond I would like to have an on off switch from here and the only electrical supply is the outside socket. If it means I have to run a cable to this socket so be it but how do I plug it in and still have a switch to turn it on and off. I hope I have explained this right, please help.

Your best and safest answer is to change your outside socket to one of these, which is a switched RCD outside socket. You can them either twin/single socket

Thanks Slackalice, I am using one of these sockets already, my problem is I want to turn on and off the pond from a different location using the the existing socked as the power source.

Clark, we have a fountain away from the house and we use an extension cable, with the plug living in a bush when not in use, housed in one of these

The plug end of an external extension cable (which we have to plug in indoors) is then introduced into the pod cover when we want to swtich it on. We don't use the fountain often because the arrangement is messy so if anyone has any better ideas I would be grateful to read other answers to your Q. We don't have an outside socket and I don't know how easy it is to install one - I would have to "get someone in" to do it.

Hi, how about fitting a remote control socket? it would mean replacing your existing one but would be quite handy, I have a similar item to this but an indoor version fitted in the shed and it allows my garden lights to be turned on and off from a keyring remote fob.

The picture shown here is the wrong one, but the other information is correct
