when my first gcse report cam out and was mostly b's and c's with a couple of a's (which keeps improving), i got told off for not trying hard enough.
Now that i've got a* on my geography and chemistry coursework, and an a on my physics, my parents don't even care, they didn't even say well done.

My response is really the same as 4getmenot. I totally agree with her. If you dont start, and it will take a long time, believe me, to believe in and be happy with yourself you will be feeling the same in 20 years time. You r no.1, it is your sole responsiblility to make urself feel, happy and secure. If in time you meet friends and a partner who make you also feel like that then you will be very lucky and it will be a bonus to you. Do not count on anyone to do that else you will end up feeling very short changed. Also if you can start to grow into a secure woman your relationships will be different and better than if you are insecure. Take it from a lady that has learnt this the hard way!

ttg, my dad left before he did any exams.
my mum failed most of her o levels and scraped a couple of c's and b's.
plus my brothers and sister got mainly c's and b's and probably failed many exams between them.
but i think that they expect me to be like my cousin, who is also a bit of a science geek. He got straight a's on his gcse's (before there were a*s) and four full a levels at grade a, then went to cambridge and got masters degree in something to do with chemistry.

Unfortunately, some parents expect their children to be what they aspired to be but never made it. It can be very hard, and soul destroying. To be happier you must concentrate on the positive things you achieve and the positive things you are and do. You wont always do everything right in life no matter how hard you try and parents being parents want what they think is best for you; thats only natural. Life is gonna be a little different for you in the next couple of years but stay positive. You are already the best cos u r unique. When things go wrong, get up and start again... life was never gonna be easy girl! Remember, true happiness and contentment are only found within ourselves any thing else that comes along is a bonus and of course helps!

Molly, you have done impressively well, and should be proud of your achievments.
As for your parents, i'm sorry to sound harsh but fluff 'em. They won't be around for ever, and in their own way I'm sure they are proud.
You've got a lifetime of craziness and fun ahead of you so start looking forward to things. Think about boyfriends, love, sex, parties, discovering yourself, beer, wine, expensive dinners and posh hotels, kids, family, job satisfaction and pride. You've got all these things to look forward to and enjoy, so view this stage of your education as a means to an end and not the end itself. Take what you need and crack for phase 2 (college, yeah baby)

You'll be fine molly, you wouldn't have picked those technical subjects if you didn't have your potential career mapped out. So many people opt for what lots of feel are soft options, like media studies. I had no plan at your age but thought I would teach needlework as that was my top arts subject - I'm glad now that I didn't, I went into industry instead and loved it all. However, if I had my time again and know what I know now, I might have worked harder on the physics and geography and gone into something like civil engineering, which still fascinates me. You set yourself your own targets in life, go for it, you'd don't need other people's approbation - if you do get it, that's a bonus! ladyMelina's words have helped you, so cut 'em out and stick them on your wardrobe door as a reminder for when you get a bit downhearted.
