seaweed from chinese takeaways etc...whats in it?

i have heard its not actually seaweed but spring greens, deep fried...but what else is in it? to give it that taste?

i know some appear to have brown sugar on top too...?

but whats the flavouring?

I asked same question in our local take away and was told they use brown sugar and dried scallop.But i guess it could be different from shop to shop.

It can be anything from palm sugar, fish sauce (nam pla) oyster sauce or even sesame oil and soy sauce

Sainsbury's sell it,and(their's at least )as NM says is usually deep fried spring greens.
What I have always wondered is,how can they (under the trade descriptions act) call it "seaweed" when there is absolutely NO seaweed in it!
Any thoughts?
