Shutting Down

Each time I click on the little red cross t/r/c I get a End Program panel appear stating `This program is not reponding` and I have to click a box stating `End Now` and it then closes down. How do I rectify this please?

I don't know but I cannot shut this laptop down from the red thingy. I have to click on the sideways arrow that gives the options....log off, switch user, restart etc....

The end program box comes up when the computer has lost the thread with the program concerned and can not continue. This often happens when multiple programs are running or you are impatient with the reaction to your clicks (and keep clicking). If it happens often with one particular program, update or re-install it.
