Major cuts should affect those who can afford to pay the most and most certainly not the Senior Citizens.
While I'm here Bobbi have a look at LoftyLotties Cottage in this thread as it's beautiful.

I hate to disillusion you redman, but any cuts will fall where they always do,the poor, sick, pensioners, and those who have no way of hitting back.
It was always thus (since my youth)
Who will not suffer?
Those with large incomes, tax havens, large estates, politicians, and anyone who has the professional advice as to where and how to squirrel their money away.
Uproar there may be,uproar there has always been, but Parliament is deaf to the common people.
Uproar will be ignored,as it always has been.

AH Sqad,
You make one cardinal error here.
This outgoing(?) government is NOT Socialist, they are basically Left Wing Conservative(calling themselves New Labour),whereas the present Conservatives are basically right wing, that is why people found it so difficult to decide as to who to vote for.
We have not had a true Socialist government since James Callaghan lost in 1979.
The expression "New Labour" was just a coverup to fool Labour(Socialist) voters into imagining that all was well in the Labour "shop",well the shopfront may have stayed the same, but the stock was completely changed.
I say this sadly,as having been poor for much of my life, and certainly not well off now,I realise that my state pension(my ONLY pension,as companies did not in general have pesnsions when I worked)and my pension credit(which is all Elsie and live on) will be the first thing to be lowered or frozen unde ANY party that gets into power.
But we are considered to be the underclass,so we don't matter. In fact I often wonder if politicians know we exist at all, except when they want our votes!
