Changing Xbox Live billing options

Seems impossible via the xbox live account pages, but this is what I want to do.

I originally paid for my live subscription online via the 360. This was a year ago and its due for renewal at the end of May.

I dont want to renew using my visa debit card as its £39.99 via Microsoft and I can get it for £32.99 from Amazon.

I dont want to delete my account, just not to have MS billing me. The only option seems to be deleting my account. I cant delete my visa card details either as its the only one associated with the account.

The site sends you round in circles. One page tells you to turn off automatic renewal and another page tells you its not possible to turn off automatic renewals! LOL, its like mobile phone companies you can do anything but cancel paying money!

Just update your account using the code the Amazon will send you before your current expiry date. the code will automatically add 12 months on to your expiry date.

I had this same problem and I refuse the idea of paying by card directly and having to pay more than if I'm buying through a retailer like amazon and somehow paying less, even though they're posting me a physical item. It's crazy.

I called Microsoft on their freephone number from their website and their south african call advisor was very polite and helpful. They will, at your request, remove your card details from Xbox Live and set the account to lapse. You can then purchase your card from Amazon in the safe knowledge you won't be billed by MS.

Mobius is right, you'll need to give them a call (I think their billing HO is in Luxembourg or something) and deactivate it that way. Then you can play through until the end of your subscription, then buy from Amazon.

I had a few issues recently with my debit card details getting declined when purchasing MS Points, which was pretty frustrating. The guy I spoke to sorted out my problems pretty quickly and he was generally very helpful.

I do find it frustrating how they don't have better account access via the dashboard, but I guess for security reasons it is better to handle that kind of sensitive information remotely.

You dont need to call anyone to update using your own code - trust me I have done this the last few years. Simply type in the code and it will be recognised as a 12 month code and will automatically extend your membership.

You can turn off auto-renew via the xbox.com website. Somewhere under your account settings you can view your subscription and can select do not auto renew.
