...there could an "option" somewhere which lets it shut down after a certain amount of time........have a look in your setting ........
silly question but are you sure you are using your broadband to access the internet. Dial up pay as you go modems will shut down after 2 hours causing you to reconnect
Check your internet settings, - Control panel>internet options>connections - it may be as Caramba says that your dial up is still active and when you get the "dial up box" it defaults to the dial up and not the broadband - for example there may be more than one shown ,if so make the broadband connection the default - have a look what it shows and please come back if any problems?
Cheers
HI it is a myth that broadband is 'always on' most ISPs disconnect after a period of inactivity basically to keep the bandwith open but you can get round it by setting your email to check for messages every 15 to 20 mins that should solve the problem
Hope that helps

I have my pc collect mail every few minutes.. I've been on broadband for 5 years and very rarely have I been booted.
I've actually been connected for 3 or 4 days at a time, only disconnecting to reboot the pc due to low memory.
It sounds like you're on dial up bernie.. as already stated.
