What happens to letters that have no stamps on them and no returning address? Does the Post Office process them anyway out of goodwill?

No, they process them and collect payment from the recipient.

Yes and no. They process them but instead of delivering them they put ancard through the door and tell the recipient there is a letter for them with 'postage to pay'. The recipient has to pay - if they want the letter - the postage PLUS an iniquitous 80p service charge.

In the good old days when the Post Office was a public service the postman/woman would knock at the door and ask for the missing postage or sometimes put it through your door just to save the hassle, now the new rapacious Consignia squeeze every penny they can - even getting me to collect a letter and pay postage + 80p on a letter which actually had been properly stamped but the corner had been bent over.

This got me thinking - would this be a good way to annoy junk mailers? Stick it all into an envelope with no stamp.

BenDToy - even better is to use their post paid or freepost envelopes because then they definitely pay. You can also stick other junk mail in that doesn't have an envelope.

Further to BenDToy and Pinotage, a very good way (I would imagine) to annoy junk mailers is to use their prepaid postage envelope, and attach it to something huge, like a shopping trolly or car tyre, then post it back. As the post office have to deliver it, then the junk mail company will have to pay the massive postage cost that comes with it. That'll teach them!

What a fantastic idea. I could get rid of some of the junk in my garage that I have never got round to taking to the local dump!

Sometimes, My little sister (5yrs old at the time) posted to herself - as she never got any mail. The next day she received her letter back!
